Our mission

Gather. Grow. Go.

Our mission at Risen Savior is very simple - to share the Good News of Jesus Christ’s Redemptive work: The Gospel.

We’re a group of flawed people who gather together in grace and love to grow in God’s Word. We are strengthened through worship services and Bible studies and special events. We cherish our fellowship, but we desire to go out into our community to listen, to serve and to share.

Terms:

Gospel = Good News

grace = undeserved love

fellowship = gathering with others

The Gospel inspires us to gather together (Hebrews 10:25); in our community, we cherish the friendships that develop around Christ’s forgiveness given to us and available to everyone we meet. The Gospel message also directs us to grow in the faith; we do not want to become stagnant in our faith and that also comes from gathering with fellow believers.

At Risen Savior, we believe…

  • In an age of anxiety, we believe that real peace comes from Jesus Christ.

  • In an age of confusion, we believe that the Bible is the word of God; without error, and it will endure forever.

  • In an age of doubt, we believe that Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

  • In an age of guilt, we believe that Jesus died on the cross to remove the power of sin from our lives.

  • In an age of hopelessness, we believe that Jesus rose physically from death; and so will we rise to eternal life.

  • In an age of skepticism, we believe that God is at work in the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion.

  • In an age of despair, we believe God’s promises to heal and transform us.

  • In an age of violence, we believe that God calls us to embody his love in the world.

  • In an age of subjective thoughts, we believe the Bible gives us objective truth that has stood the test of time.

  • In an age of constant change, we believe in the unchanging Holy Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Our story

A new congregation comes to Mansfield.

In 2017, a group began meeting regularly to discuss starting a new church in the Mansfield area.

After months of conversation, the group decided to move forward and create a new congregation. The new congregation chose the name Risen Savior, joined the WELS church body, and purchased an existing building and property on Lexington Avenue. (There’s a chance you’ve been in the building to vote!)

Our first resident pastor (Brad Wright) joined us in mid-2019. Our second resident pastor (Allen Schleusener) joined us in April 2024.

We’re excited to gather, grow, and go with you!

our pastor

Meet Al Schleusener.

Al Schleusener came to Mansfield in April 2024 to serve as Risen Savior’s second pastor.

Pastor Al grew up in Tomah, Wisconsin, and might still retain that “WisCONsin” accent. He is married to Chanda; they met at Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minnesota. He and his family are avid lovers of the great outdoors. They have hiked the mountains of Colorado and travelled in the Badlands of North Dakota and South Dakota, just to name a few of their favorites.

Pastor Al is a second-career pastor. He was first a chef, working for five years in the industry and finishing up (before going back to school) as a chef at Mrs. B’s Bed and Breakfast in Lanesboro, Minnesota. Every once in a while this means he will grill for the family or the church family . . . OR. . . help to organize a Passover Seder with the full meal of Lamb, Matzah bread and more.

In his first year of ministry at Risen Savior, Pastor Al completed a three year master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is already using this in his work at the church and in the neighborhood.

Pastor Al and Chanda are blessed with five children - Kyla, Malia, Josiah, Selah and Micah.
